Occasional tedious ramblings from a feminist, atheist, autistic academic and historic narrow boater who likes cats, beer, tea, and solitude, and is strangely fascinated by the cinema organ.
I love these. Also, why shouldn't shortbread have egg? I'm going to have to make an eggless version for comparison now!
It just doesn't! It must make it less short, more cakey. It should just be flour, sugar and butter - though the sainted Delia adds semolina for crunch. You didn't get the recipe from an American website by any chance? They love putting egg in biscuits and in my experience they're never improved by it.
It could have come from an American recipe actually, I don't know. But now I know what my next off-grid baking post will be about, I shall try duck shaped proper shortbread and see if I like it better!
better bring my rusty dog chain and plain galvanised chimney to join next years easter party then
Oh yes Madcat!
Is it traditional to have the watercan behind the chimney slightly falling off the handrail?
